Ever found yourself eating mindlessly at your desk? You’re not the only one. A lot of people eat the wrong things and too much of them during their work day. They often don’t even realize when they’re doing it and they can’t understand why they’re gaining weight.
Since you spend a great portion of your waking hours at work, you need to take the right steps to ensure that you don’t overeat the wrong things during that time. I have 6 simple tips that can help you do that.
Eat a Good Breakfast
You need to prepare for your day in the right way. This means eating breakfast. If you don’t eat a solid breakfast you will likely find yourself starving by 10 AM. You’ll be ready to eat anything by that time and, most likely, there will only be unhealthy snacks or sugar rich drinks around.
When you eat breakfast you’re giving yourself greater energy, you will be more productive, and you will find that your appetite is under control. You shouldn’t feel any really strong cravings until noon.
Eat a Snack Before Long Work Meetings
Work meetings are often the place where you will eat a lot of the wrong things. You’re trapped in a room with a lot of pastries on the table. If you’re tired or bored, you will be tempted to eat whatever is offered, which won’t be good.
To reduce the chance of this happening, you need to have a small snack 10 minutes before the meeting begins. This will help you avoid cravings and eat fewer calories during that time.
Drink More Water
Drinks may be the biggest sources of calories on the job. Whether these are sodas or too many coffee cups loaded with sugar and cream, the effect on your calorie total may be massive. Water is always a safer beverage. Have a bottle of water at your desk at all times. You will remain hydrated, focused, alert, and won’t fall into the trap of drinking too many calories.
Bring Your Own Snacks
What you eat during lunch may be less of a problem than what you snack on. The snacks that most workplaces have to offer are often not the kind you want to eat when trying to lose weight. You need to have good alternatives in case you suddenly have a craving.
So, either stock your desk with healthy and lean snacks, or bring them with you each day. Fruit and sliced vegetables are your safest bet.
Choose the Right Lunch Mates
The place where you go to eat lunch will often be determined by who you eat with. Some people are junk food fans and others prefer the salad bar. Who are you going to have lunch with?
You need to choose the right people to eat with. If those colleagues who are closest to you like their burgers and fries at lunch, you may need to socialize with them after hours. Don’t let anyone ruin your diet regimen.
Do Not Eat at Your Desk
Eating at your desk is a recipe for disaster. It’s the perfect scenario for mindless eating – consuming too much food without even being aware of it.
You need to be focused on your food so you’ll be in control over how much you’re eating. This is why you need to get away from your desk and computer and eat somewhere else. Even if you have healthy snacks at your desk, make sure to not eat them while doing actual work.
If you follow these tips you will find it easy to avoid overeating at work.
