Your body is a reflection of your mind.
Your thoughts influence your actions. And your actions influence your physical appearance.
I see a lot of people get overly focused on the way they look, all while completely neglecting their mindset. The result is rarely what they’re seeking.
It Starts With the Mind
A lot of people write off mindset work. They plan out every calorie and every workout, but don’t give a second thought to retraining how they think. Their thoughts and behaviors don’t align, which results in cognitive dissonance.
Their mental habits never change and so they never change. Any weight they lose is easily gained back because old thoughts continue to push old habits back to the surface.
Most of us already know how to lose weight. But knowing and doing are not the same thing. The doing part – the actual physical habits you need to create a healthy lifestyle, start with mental habits.
Once those new thought patterns take hold they start influencing the way you go about your day. You view your life through a different lens and that ends up creating different behaviors and a completely different outcome.
How Thoughts Influence Actions
Convince yourself that carbs are the devil and there’s a good chance you’re going to eat less of them. Believe that you can’t stop eating cookies once you’ve had one and that’s going to be the likely outcome.
Tell yourself you can’t lose weight and that’s exactly what’s going to happen – not just because you think it, but because you will subconsciously create self-sabotaging actions that align with that mindset.
It’s a self-reinforcing cycle. Thoughts lead to actions which reinforce thoughts.
You’re probably really good at doing something. Maybe it’s your job. Maybe it’s a hobby of yours. There’s also a really good chance that you know you’re really good at it. You believe it.
When’s the last time you told yourself you sucked at something but were actually amazing at it? It doesn’t happen often and that’s because your negative self-talk is affecting your ability to get better at it.
Everything Starts With a Thought
Everything you see, touch, hear, smell, and feel started with a thought. If you were to trace the history of anything it always started with a single thought. Every invention. Every song. Every meal. And every weight loss journey.
You need to decide who you are going to be right now. And you need to start believing it as if it were a fact.
Once you do that you will create the necessary mental framework that all healthy habits are born from. These are the habits that eventually lead to weight loss.
Jumping to the end before laying the foundation will have you fighting an uphill battle. It will turn momentum against you, as failed weight loss attempts reinforce negative thought habits.
But you can turn that all around with a single thought. If you start telling yourself that you love your body, that you are in control of food, that exercise makes you feel amazing, that nothing can stop you from reaching your goals – you are going to achieve greatness.
