If you are improving your lifestyle with the intention of transforming your body, real change can take time. This can be frustrating when you feel as though you’re doing everything possible and the weight should just be falling off. But the minute you begin to make healthier choices, your body begins to improve from the inside out.
Focus on these instant changes in your body and the way you feel rather than how you look, and your motivation will stay high and keep frustration at bay. The next thing you know, you’ll look up and realize that your body is beginning to reflect on the outside the good health you’ve already attained on the inside!
“You are one workout away from a good mood.” The so-called “runner’s high” is no joke. Tackle any type of exercise that gets your heart rate up, and you’ll release feel-good endorphins that make you feel euphoric and happy all day long. The more intense your workout, the more euphoric you’ll feel.
Reducing your consumption of processed foods and sugar, as well as beginning to exercise, will not only help to clear your skin, it can actually make your skin “glow” (improved circulation) and make you look younger.
Feeding your body the proper nutrients helps it to generate skin cells which will improve the overall appearance of your skin. Cutting out junk food and eating more healthy fats will lead to a decrease in skin inflammation as well.
Your body responds to a diet high in sodium and processed foods by holding onto water. As soon as you begin to eat more vegetables and other clean, whole foods, exercising, and drinking more water, your body will respond by shedding this excess water right away. Not only will this reflect on the scale but your clothes will suddenly fit a little better, and any puffiness in your face and body will diminish.
Eat the right foods and exercise, and you’ll improve circulation to your entire body. Oxygen-rich blood will now increase in your extremities and to other areas that may have been deprived. Your organs will function better, your heart will get stronger, and your brain will even function at a higher level. As a result, your body will feel better overall.
A healthier lifestyle will likely improve your sleep patterns, making it much easier to fall asleep and stay asleep all night. Foods high in sugar and additives (like MSG) can make sleep hard to come by by exciting the brain cells and nervous system. Exercise will also help your sleep improve by leveling out your stress levels (see below) and tiring your body out.
Making healthier choices makes you feel good about yourself! And nothing feels better than breaking that first barrier – the first improvement in run time, the first full pushup, the first week with no soda. Respect your body and you will also discover a healthy self-respect with it.
Stop feeding your body foods that interfere with your immune system and begin to feed it the proper nutrients to fight off infections and disease, and you’ll notice an instant boost in immunity. Many foods, like garlic, are even natural anti-bacterials, and there are even foods like broccoli that fight cancer by activating our body’s own cancer-fighting enzymes.
Exercise can also help with immunity by providing a boost in the cells that attack bacteria, and those who exercise moderately will see a decrease in the amount of viruses they catch throughout the year.
Eating whole, nutrient-rich foods and exercising has been shown to improve our libido by increasing the hormones we need to feel sexual, improving blood vessel health to sexual organs, and as stated above, improving self-confidence, which can help us feel more sexual.
Exercise has been shown over and over again to reduce the effects of stress on the body by removing cortisol, the stress hormone, from the body and increasing feel-good hormones like serotonin. Many links are now being made between highly-processed, high-sugar foods and anxiety/depression, so removing these foods and replacing them with nutrient-rich, whole foods could also help relieve these symptoms.
You know that working out gives you more energy for your day for all the reasons listed above, but eating a quality diet will also provide you energy by stabilizing your blood sugar and supplying your body with the nutrients it needs to stay energized. Cutting out high-sugar and processed foods will also cut-out blood sugar crashes and sluggishness.
