I don’t know about you, but I am absolutely tired of walking through checkout lines and seeing magazine headlines promising flat abs and toned legs in days. Women’s magazine covers are the worst offenders. Mens’ aren’t far behind either. These so-called “health” magazines do nothing but hurt our society and trick people into believing that the headlines they tout are truthful.
How can these magazines get away with this! They tell people exactly what they want to hear to sell more magazines. The credibility of these magazines is a big fat nothing in my opinion, and I hope by the end of this article, you will think twice before supporting these propaganda machines.
I’m going to skip over the obvious photoshop techniques they use to manipulate pictures, and go right to heart of the manipulating headlines. These magazines just happen to be some of the first ones I came across. The problems are industry wide, so if you don’t see your favorite magazine here, don’t take it as a vote of confidence from me.
So Long, Cellulite | Walk Your Butt Off – Lose weight and get sculpted fast
Yikes! They sure packed this headline with just about every “keyword” you can imagine:
– butt off
– lose weight
– get sculpted
You mean if I buy this magazine I’ll find out how to get rid of cellulite just by walking, and I’ll be able to get a great butt – FAST! Here’s my money!
If it were only that easy. There’s nothing wrong with walking, but if you’re expecting to use that as your sole form of exercise in the hopes of getting lean, you’re going to be very disappointed in the results. In addition, any magazine that claims anything to be “quick” or “fast” in regards to weight loss, is shamefully misleading you.
Please don’t get me started on the other 2 headlines on this cover: 2 mins to flatter abs, and snack your way slim. How cliche.

18 Secret Flat-Belly Foods
Yes, please do tell us for the 1 millionth time what these magical foods are that burn belly fat? It’s no wonder 90% of people out there still think you can target fat loss.
I hate to be the bearer of bad news (I actually don’t), but there are no secret flat-belly foods. Don’t you think that if there were, we wouldn’t have the obesity problem in our society?
But wait, there are foods that will get you a flat belly, and I’m going to let the secret out for free. They are called whole foods. That’s right. Only problem is how are magazines going to sell that to you, and do it over and over again?
Save your $4 and go buy a pound of chicken. You’ll get more bang for your buck, and you might actually see a decrease in body fat.

Get a Flat Tummy in 7 Days
Ugh, get real! The only way you’re getting a flat stomach in 7 days is if you started off with a flat stomach in the first place. Yes, you can lose 1-2 pounds of fat in a week, but the chances of that all coming from your stomach are slim to none.
It takes time to notice results, especially around your midsection. You need to give it at least a month before you start noticing real, tangible results from your diet and exercise program.
I don’t even want to open this magazine to see what the article says. The majority of “flat tummy” articles are just ab exercise guides. Unfortunately, if you’re trying to get abs from exercise, you’re going to be very disappointed.
A flat stomach comes from good nutrition, consistency, and time. If I ever see that on a magazine cover, I’ll be happy to hand over my hard-earned dollars.

Holy crap batman. I didn’t realize you could cram so much BS into one headline. It’s just one big run-on manipulation.
I’m not sure where to start. Tricks to instant weight loss? Instant? Come on now. I’m just amazed people are even allowed to publish this stuff. The closest thing you’re going to get to instant weight loss is severely dehydrating yourself. Even that is just going to be water weight that comes right back on when you drink a glass of water.
Diet food that’s actually tasty? This is a selling point for many people, but only because they’ve been led to believe that losing weight is all about eating bland food. Not true at all. And what’s diet food anyways? Are they placing a negative connotation on whole foods? If they are, aren’t they basically saying that food doesn’t taste good? I guess they think that tasty, packaged, processed, man-made stuff is food – it’s not.
How stars lose belly fat fast? Jessica Alba lost belly fat almost instantly, but it wasn’t from diet or exercise!

Sign me up! I had no idea getting a beach body was so easy. I can suck it up for 2 weeks to have a “beach ready body”. Can’t you! That’s what they’re counting on so that you’ll spend a few dollars to find out how.
Again, the only way you’re getting flat abs, lean legs, and a tight butt in 2 weeks is if you already had one to begin with. I know that’s not what you want to hear, but I’m not going to give you the disservice of telling you what you want to hear. I’m going to tell you what you need to know so that when those 2 weeks come and go, instead of giving up due to lack of reaching unrealistic results, you keep pushing on towards realistic goals.
Two weeks is just about the time when you’re getting started on your body transformation journey, and you’re developing some new, healthy habits. Over time, these healthy habits will multiply. As a side effect to living a healthy lifestyle, weight loss will occur.
No one’s life ever changed from reading one of these headlines. Lives change because people wake up and take the time to educate themselves about the real truths about health and fitness. Once they removed themselves from the marketers grasps, only then did they start to see true progress.
